Birchbox is a monthly subscription service based out of New York. For ten dollars a month you receive a box with five beauty or lifestyle samples inside based off of a beauty profile that you create. I received February 2018's box earlier this month and tested out each product to determine if this subscription is really worth it.

First item in this months box is a facial micro scrubber, which is used to clean pores from dirt and grime. This product actually ended up being one of my favorites from this months box. The actual exfoliator is a mitt rather than a cloth or pad. It has a cloth tag attached to it that reads "replace when writing fades", which I thought was pretty useful. This exfoliator is very functional and would be great for traveling or on the go since it is small and easy to clean. It seems durable and long lasting, so for the price I think this is a great exfoliator.

Next up is a lipstick, which is my personal favorite thing to get in subscription boxes. I am a lipstick junkie and love trying new colors through services like Birchbox. This lipstick however fell a little short. The color is unique to anything in my makeup collection, its a dark brick red that in the light has a bit of a pink undertone. Upon first coat the lipstick is a little patchy, but after the second coat applies opaque. The main drawback for me on this lipstick is that it is extremely drying. I love matte liquid lipsticks, one of my favorite formulas being colourpop's ultra matte lipstick, but this lipstick was still too dry for me. The texture of this lip became almost chalky feeling and immediately made my lips looked cracked and unmoisturized. For the amount of product you get in the full size the price is good, but the formula is just too drying for me.

This item surprised me, it is a mini MAC False Lashes Mascara. MAC is a cult favorite brand that I actually haven't tried much from, partly because I was unsure of their cruelty free status. According to their website they are cruelty free in the United states, but still sell in China. This mascara is very lengthening and a true dark black. The first day I wore this mascara to review I ended up wearing it for almost twelve hours, and it didn't budge. It is very long lasting and in my experience didn't smear or smudge. I really enjoy this mascara and would consider buying the full size after running out of this sample.

The fourth item is a leave in conditioner that protects against heat and UV rays. Leave-in conditioners are great, especially when you're on the go. If you have finer hair like me leave-in conditioners are a must have since they moisturize, but tend to not weigh hair down as much as regular conditioner. This conditioner is good, but not very different from others that I have tried in the past. It moisturized my hair about the same as the conditioner I already use, so personally I wouldn't buy the full size product. If you are in the market to try new hair products like leave-in conditioners, this box could be a great way to test them out without the commitment of a full size bottle.

Lastly, this February box includes a mini perfume sample of 'Pink sugar'. If you are someone who tends to not like sugary sweet scents, this perfume is not for you. This perfume is an extremely sweet youthful scent, which I personally love. It is long lasting seems like it will be great for spring. While I loved this perfume, I can see it being pretty polarizing by how sweet it is.
If you are already a lover of beauty products, or you are new to makeup, this box is perfect. As someone who is already a lover of makeup this box is a great way to try new beauty products that I wouldn't have found otherwise. One downside to beauty subscription boxes is that what may work for one person may not work for you. Like the lipstick I received in this box, many people gave it great reviews, but it is personally too drying for me. I like that Birchbox tries to avoid this though by using the beauty profile quiz where you can fill out things like your preferences and skin type. In conclusion, I believe Birchbox is a great subscription service to expand your makeup collection and try new products every month, and I would recommend it.
